Valuing Seniors

A strong community is one that supports its members and values the varied contributions that all make. When older people are fully involved in their community there are extra benefits including passing on of cultural knowledge and building strong intergenerational relations.

Portrait of a Senior Territorian

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award is one of many awards and events sponsored by the NT Government to celebrate, encourage and recognise the contribution of various groups in society.

The exhibition originally commenced as a one off event to celebrate the International Year of the Older Person in 1999. In 2001 the Government House Foundation Acquisitive Award was introduced. There is also a People's Choice Award.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian is hosted by the Speaker's Office, Department of the Legislative Assembly (DLA).  The 2008 award exhibition summary is downloadable from the DLA website.
