DRUG ACTION WEEK: June 22 - June 28
Drug Action Week kicks off this Monday with activities right around the Territory.
The theme of the week this year is "Alcohol is a drug - TOO!" - emphasising the negative effects of alcohol on the body and its potential for addiction.
The week launches at 10am on June 23 at the Bagot Community with traditional dancers from Correctional Services and a 'Yellow Brick Road' educational stall activity for children.
Life Be In It, NT Police, NT Fire brigade and members of the Alcohol & Other Drugs service will also attend.
Similar events will be held in Palmerston Indigenous Village and Knuckey's Lagoon on Tuesday June 24 from 9am; and in Belyuen on Thursday June 26.
DHCS Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Director Alasdair McLay says the week also highlights the achievements of the dedicated individuals who work within the AOD sector to reduce alcohol and drug-related harm.
"Alcohol damages a person's brain and liver and contributes to the tragic vehicle accidents on our roads.
"Territorians need to understand that alcohol is a drug and, in many instances, can have devastating effects on individuals and their families," says Mr McLay.
