Alice Springs on a winner with Intensive Care Nurses

Five nurses (the largest group ever) are graduating from the Flinders University External Education Critical Care Course this week with an overall mark of distinction.

Ms Bronwyn Taylor, Nursing Director Clinical & Recruitment said the result is outstanding and demonstrates the commitment the Alice Springs Hospital has to professional development and standards of excellence for Intensive Care Unit patients.

All five nurses were originally recruits to Alice Springs from overseas and interstate.

"This is a fantastic result and demonstrates the hospital's commitment to recruiting people with potential and then building on their expertise in a supportive environment" Ms Taylor said.

"These nurses have done an outstanding job and are a credit to the hospital and to Alice Springs. Some have made their homes here and all have committed to a year long intensive training to ensure we can offer the best possible patient care here in Central Australia.

"We've make a determined effort at the hospital to proactive recruitment linked with professional development to ensure high standards of patient care. We are also delighted with the number of nurses that participated in the training and will graduate from the course with excellent marks.

"While this is an annual program of training our participant numbers are much higher this year and having all five people achieve such good results will support the unit objectives in providing quality care for our intensive care patients."

The Alice Springs Hospital will celebrate the achievements of these dedicated nurses with a special ceremony at 3pm on Tuesday the 16th of December, 2008.
