Bagot celebrates National Aboriginal and Islander Children's Day

Media is welcome to attend from 3.30 pm to 5 pm.

The NT Department of Health and Families (DHF) will celebrate National Aboriginal and Islander Children's Day (NAICD) at Bagot Community Hall in Darwin from 3.00 pm - 5.00 pm on Tuesday 4 August.

Held in collaboration with the Bagot After School Hours Care program, the event is one of many NAICD celebrations being held nationwide.

Children from the program and others from local communities will enjoy a range of fun cultural activities, face painting, a jumping castle, and games with giant toys and parachutes, as well as a healthy afternoon snack.

"This year's theme is 'Good Child Protection: We do it better together' and it's a great opportunity to show how we can all work together to assist Top End kids," said Jenny Scott, Executive Director of NT Families and Children.

"Families, communities, schools, children's services, and governments must all work together to protect and support children. Days like this make it possible for us to network, acknowledge and build upon the strengths of family and community partnerships-as well as have some fun!"

NAICD is an annual event coordinated by the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care. This year's event at Bagot Community is also supported by Save the Children, Darwin City Council Fun Bus, National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect NT (NAPCAN NT), Darwin Family Day Care, Danila Dilba, Red Cross E-Cruz, Ludmilla Community Connections, Darwin Toy Library and Anglicare.
