Ten young people from Central Australia took their first steps back into town after a three-week intensive circuit-breaker camp.
The camp, run by Tangentyere Council and funded by the Department of Health and Families, gave the participants a chance to build on their education and household skills while experiencing unique outdoor adventures.
Tangentyere Council's Youth Service Coordinator Reg Hatch said the kids were referred to the camp by Police.
"These kids have been identified as either offenders or possible offenders. This is an important initiative which is getting these kids off the streets and teaching them the skills that everyone needs in their day-to-day lives."
Mr Hatch said a teacher at the camp ensured they all maintained their education throughout the three-week period.
"Initial evidence shows that these camps actually improve the young people's school attendance," said Mr Hatch.
The last stage in the camp involved the kids travelling by foot from Hamilton Downs to Standley Chasm-a hike of around four hours.
The next circuit-breaker camp will be held in early September.
