The doors of the Northern Rehabilitation Network (NRN) will be opened to the public today as part of Disability Awareness Week.
The week provides the community with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of people living with disability and the important contributions they make to their local areas.
Northern Rehabilitation Network Coordinator Denys Spencer said the NRN works with people post accident or illness through physical and mental rehabilitation.
"People come in here with anything from spinal cord injury to stroke, head injuries or multiple trauma.
"It's our job to give them appropriate treatment such as physiotherapy and speech pathology or to link them up with a social worker.
"This week and the NRN open day should prompt us to start seeing people's abilities and celebrate the diversity in our society," said Ms Spencer.
NRN - located at Building 15, Royal Darwin Hospital - will be open to the public until 2pm. A light lunch will be provided.
Upcoming events for Disability Awareness Week include a Happiness & Well Being Fair in Darwin's Raintree Park tomorrow at lunchtime and a discounted breakfast on Sunday morning at Rapid Creek's Byte Café.
