East Point Beach Closed to Swimming

Saturday 5 June 2010

A precautionary advice for swimming at East Point Beach has been issued following the detection of high counts of the E.coli bacteria in sea water sampling results received linked to other tests taken at Lake Alexander, which has also been closed to swimming.

The Department of Health and Families today confirmed as a precautionary measure that the East Point Beach be closed to swimming and fishing until further notified. The department will work with other Northern Territory Government agencies and the Darwin City Council to monitor sea water quality around East Point and undertake further testing of the sea water to ensure that it is safe to swim in again as quickly as possible.

Anyone who has concerns can contact DHF Environmental Health hotline during business hours on toll free 1800 095 646 or mobile 0401 116 460.
