Every Day is Mother's Day in Gove

Monday 07 June 2010

Gove District Hospital has experienced a baby boom during the month of May with the birth of thirty babies in twenty-eight days.

General Manager and Director of Nursing at Gove District Hospital Doug Gilchrist said the increase in births was a surprise.

"We delivered double the amount of babies during May than what we would normally expect to in any given month," Mr Gilchrist said.

"The midwives and GP obstetricians have worked tirelessly over this period and have done a great job".

"The team delivered seventeen boys and thirteen girls."

The maternity services at the Gove District Hospital have had a major turn-around since last year when the service was closed for a month.

"This is a positive step forward from last April when we were understaffed and had to completely close down our services," Mr Gilchrist said.

"We now have a great team of midwives and obstetricians on board, with a third GP obstetrician joining us in June."
