The Department of Health and Families (DHF) today announced Clare Gardiner-Barnes as the Executive Director of the Northern Territory Families and Children (NTFC) division.Ms Gardiner-Barnes' appointment is effective immediately. She has been acting in the role since January.
Acting Chief Executive of the DHF, Alan Wilson, said he was delighted to have such a capable person in the position on a permanent basis.
"It was very important to prioritise the recruitment and appointment process to enhance stability and leadership within NTFC," Mr Wilson said.
"I believe Ms Gardiner-Barnes has the experience and expertise to offer this leadership.
"Amongst many other roles, one of Ms Gardiner-Barnes' main priorities will be to improve attraction and retention of care and protection staff within the NT."
As well as working in the Northern Territory, Ms Gardiner-Barnes has extensive experience in key roles with the Queensland Government. She has played important parts in finalising and implementing the Smarter Schools National Partnership Agreements, and leading the implementation of the senior schools reform including the 'earning or learning' policy and legislation.
"The breadth and depth of Ms Gardiner-Barnes' skills and experience will complement the work of the NTFC division," Mr Wilson said.
