Lee Point Beach reopens

The precautionary advice for swimming at Lee Point Beach has been lifted after test results from samples collected on 12 May 2011 showed greatly improved water quality with significantly reduced enterococci bacteria levels.

Nightcliff Beach at Chapman Road will remain closed until results indicate that the beach is safe to reopen.

Environmental Health Senior Policy Officer Karen Beirne said further interstate water sampling results will be received next week.

"Weekly water sampling will continue at all Darwin Harbour beach sites and the public will be kept informed of any changes to the situation," Ms Beirne said.

Latest test results and the current status of the beaches can be viewed on the Environmental Health website at: http://www.health.nt.gov.au/Environmental_Health/Beach_Water_Quality/index.aspx
