Flynn Drive Community Health Centre today hosted a morning tea for families of multiple births between 10.00 am and 12.00 noon today. The event recognised that multiple births* come with unique issues, challenges and joys.
The gathering was for parents of twins, triplets, or even quadruplets who are two years old or younger-and of course their children.
Child & Family Health Nurse Julianne Weinert said the aim was to establish a social group for families enjoying the experience of parenting multiple births.
"It's about connecting these families and introducing the idea that they may want to start an Alice Springs multiple births association," she said.
Ms Weinert added, "Support is vital for these larger families and Flynn Drive will be pleased to be able to coordinate the creation of a Multiple Birth Group.
"These special families will have an opportunity to talk to each other about different techniques for handling their children and be able to share clothes and equipment-obviously having a multiple birth means several bottles, highchairs, sets of clothes, everything!"
The next Multiple Birth Group morning tea will be held on Tuesday 8 September between 10 and 12. For more information or to join the Group call the Flynn Drive Community Health Centre on 8951 6713.
* Statistics show that 1.65 per cent of all Australian pregnancies result in multiple births, with twins being the commonest."
