Northern TerritoryH1N1 influenza update

A middle-aged Katherine man who had a number of long-standing, serious medical conditions as well as the H1N1 influenza (human swine flu) virus died in Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) this morning.

RDH management has extended its sincere condolences to the man's family.

The patient was the third NT resident to die of H1N1-related illness. The previous death, in Alice Springs Hospital, was a man with underlying multiple illness who was treated for H1N1 but died later as a result of his frail condition. He was defined as an H1N1-related case in accordance with national reporting criteria.

101 new cases of H1N1 Influenza (human swine flu) have been confirmed in the Northern Territory in the past 48 hours.

The cases include 52 in Darwin, 14 in Alice Springs and 8 in Katherine.
