Northern TerritoryH1N1 Influenza update

The total number of confirmed H1N1 Influenza (human swine flu) cases recorded in the Northern Territory since 31 May 2009 is 324, with 54 cases being notified in the past 24 hours.

Areas where cases have been identified include Darwin (11), Alice Springs (8), Kintore (8), and Hermannsburg (6).

12 people are currently hospitalised for conditions that include H1N1. 7 of these are in Alice Springs Hospital, 2 are in Royal Darwin Hospital, and 3 are in Katherine Hospital.

Australia moved into the "PROTECT" phase of H1N1 on 17 June 2009. This recognizes that the majority of H1N1 cases are mild and most people will recover within a few days. As most people affected by H1N1 are soon clear of the virus, the total number of confirmed cases does not reflect cases that are still active.
