Perth Wildcats to bounce into RDH

Thursday 3 September 2009

Players from NBL star side the Perth Wildcats visited Royal Darwin Hospital today to spread some cheer among patients.

The players - captain Shawn Redhage, shooting guards Kevin Lisch and Drew Williamson, and former captain and centre Paul Rogers took time out from their hectic training schedule to visit the children's ward, the Orthopaedic ward and RAPU - the hospital's Rapid Admission Planning Unit.

Player Paul Rogers said the team always made a special effort to visit RDH when in town.

"Last time we were here there was a patient who was attacked by a crocodile and had been accidentally shot by his mate who was trying to get the croc off him," he said.

"No other hospital in Australia is like it!"

Royal Darwin Hospital General Manager Dr Len Notaras thanked the players for their visit.

"I would like to thank these fantastic players for taking the time out to visit our hospital and spread some cheer among our patients and staff," he said.

"Most of these patients won't have the chance to get to the games themselves, and the support of the Perth Wildcats in spreading some cheer is very much appreciated."

The Perth Wildcats are in Darwin to take part in the Top End Challenge, a pre-season tournament being held at Marrara Indoor Stadium from today until Saturday 5 September.

All eight National Basketball League teams are taking part in the Top End Challenge, including New Zealand Breakers, Adelaide 36ers, Melbourne Tigers, Gold Coast Blaze and Cairns Taipans.
