Territory shoppers have given Royal Darwin Hospital's youngest patients a brighter future thanks to the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal.Woolworths staff and the local community raised more than $38,800 for Royal Darwin Hospital during the appeal, held from August 23 to October 17 last year.
Royal Darwin Hospital General Manager Liz Stackhouse said the continued fundraising efforts by Woolworths were a great boost for the hospital's children's wards.
"The hard work of Woolworths staff is reflected in the amount of money donated during the appeal," Ms Stackhouse said. "The support of Woolworths' customers is equally appreciated. Their generosity has given a welcome boost to paediatric services at Royal Darwin Hospital. On behalf of all of our staff and young patients we want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated and especially to Woolworths and their staff."
In previous years, donations from the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal have been put towards enhancing patient care in paediatric wards and purchasing equipment for the Special Care Nursery. This year Royal Darwin Hospital will put the money towards a neonatal transport unit to enable newborns requiring intensive care to be brought safely to Royal Darwin Hospital.
Nationally, the annual Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal raised more than $6 million for medical equipment, facilities and research in Australian children's hospitals and wards.
