People who engage in risky sex are being reminded to play it safe to avoid Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).
Manager of the NT Government's Sexual Health Program, Wendy Armstrong said using condoms is still the best protection against sexually transmitted infections.
A recent event in the ACT where a HIV positive man has been found to be working as a sex worker is a reminder to people that they should practice safe sex and get regularly tested.
ACT Health has contacted people who may have had sexual contact with the infected man, including people who reside in the NT.
"This is a reminder for people who have casual unprotected sex that they should seek screening to ensure they are not unwillingly transmitting an infection.
"Many STIs don't present obvious symptoms so people should seek screening as a regular part of their health care, particularly if they fall into a risk category.
"We know that infections like Syphilis are on the rise around the country and the world, particularly among men who have sex with men.
"Having an STI can also put people at more risk of contracting other STIs, including HIV," said Ms Armstrong.
Anyone concerned about their sexual contacts should contact Clinic 34 on phone 89992678 to access free and confidential screening to ensure they haven't contracted an infection.
