The Top End's cooler weather has prompted a warning from the Centre for Disease Control for people to take steps to protect themselves against flu.
"Drops in temperature can herald a rise in flu cases. Those who haven't had their flu vaccination will be vulnerable," Director of the Centre for Disease Control, Dr Vicki Krause said.
"This year's seasonal flu vaccine is still available and our message is make sure you get your flu shot before the flu gets you."
The 2011 seasonal flu vaccine is available at Community Care Centres, Remote Health Centres and most GP clinics.
"It's important for people to renew their protection against flu every year by getting the seasonal influenza vaccine," Dr Krause said.
The seasonal flu vaccine is free for:
Everyone aged 65 years and over;
Indigenous people 15 years and over;
All pregnant women;
Anybody with impaired immunity or a chronic medical condition such as severe asthma, heart, kidney or lung disease
