Tennant Creek Hospital acknowledged for quality service

The Department of Health and Community Services is pleased to announce that Tennant Creek Hospital has been awarded continuing accreditation by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS).

The announcement comes after stage two of the fire upgrades to the hospital began earlier this month.

Hospitals receive accreditation by undergoing a four-year cycle involving an audit, a survey and two self-assessments under the ACHS.

Tennant Creek Hospital's Acting General Manager Michael Wright says the accreditation acknowledges the hospital's excellence in delivering safe, quality service to the Tennant Creek Community for almost 30 years.

"This shows everyone that we're providing a high standard health service which is compliant with Australian standards and we're doing it well," says Mr Wright.

The accreditation system of ACHS was only set up in the NT recently and was readily embraced by the Department of Health and Community Services as part of the quality improving process.

All of the hospitals in the Territory are now accredited by ACHS standards.
