On Friday 11 December, Tennant Creek's Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is inviting Barkly residents to view the facility and see the critical role SARC plays for people who have suffered from sexual violence.Opened in August 2009, the new SARC facility features counselling offices, a children's counselling room, a meeting room and training areas.
NT SARC Manager, Ms Barbara Kelly said she was delighted to open the doors of the SARC centre so people can see the quality care provided by the SARC team to clients throughout the Barkly region.
"It is so important that people who have experienced sexual assault have a safe place, where they can be given the support, counselling, and follow through help that they require."
"This facility has enabled us to expand our team of SARC positions, and increase the services they provide to people in Tennant Creek and the Barkly."
The SARC team includes 4 full time positions and a dedicated team of Mobile Outreach Service (MOS) staff who provide counselling services to children in remote communities of the Barkly. MOS is Commonwealth Government funded and delivered and staffed by DHF's Northern Territory Families and Children Division.
Narelle Bremner, Tennant Creek SARC Coordinator added "I would like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated team of SARC workers and the interested people that have come to the Open Day."
Increased SARC facilities across the Territory are a recommendation of the Little Children are Sacred report.
The new SARC facility replaces the one based in the Tennant Creek Hospital. It is located at Suite 3 / 172 Patterson Street and by phone on (08) 8962 4364.
