The Department of Health and Families (DHF) has engaged the services of Rural Health Education Development (RHED) Consulting to assess the education and training of Nurses and Midwives in the Top End and Central Australia.
"This review aims to evaluate the training available for nurses and midwives engaged in the public and non government health service providers across the Northern Territory. It also invites input from nurses and midwives who are not currently practising," said Greg Rickard, NT Principal Nursing Adviser.
"We are always trying to improve the skills of nurses and midwives and the best way to do that is to listen to what they think would be valuable in terms of their particular circumstance, interests and location," Mr. Rickard added.
Forums conducted for nurses in the Darwin region have been have been ongoing from 14 - 18 September at Royal Darwin Hospital.
"We have had great attendance and even better feedback from participants in this week's forum and hope to get similar success from the upcoming reviews," added Mr. Rickard.
"From Yirrkala to Yulara, we want the input of Territory nurses, midwives and educators. Please come along and have a say."
From today, regional nursing reviews will be held across the Territory. They will take place at the following locations: Alice Springs Hospital (Monday 21 September), Gove District Hospital (Monday 21 September), Katherine District Hospital (Tuesday 22 September) and Tennant Creek Hospital (Thursday 24 September). The reviews will include interviews and focus groups.
Any nurses and midwives wishing to provide input can complete the electronic survey online at www.rhed.com.au/nursing.
