Professor Bart Currie has been honoured as the Northern Territory's Clinical Educator of the Year, alongside Alice Springs Hospital's Dr Sally Banfield who has been named the Territory's top Junior Doctor.
The Clinical Educator and Junior Doctor of the Year are judged in each state and territory by their local Postgraduate Medical Education Council.
The accolades put Professor Currie and Dr Banfield in the running for the Awards' national titles, which are being announced at a gala dinner in Auckland this evening (Tuesday 8 November).
The special event is part of the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Councils Prevocational Medical Education and Training Forum, which Professor Currie and Dr Banfield are both attending, along with peers from across Australia.
Department of Health Chief Executive, Jeff Moffet congratulated the doctors on their achievements and wished them well in Auckland.
"These two exceptional clinicians received their awards in recognition of their contributions to the education and training of our junior clinicians," he said.
"Professor Currie's tireless dedication to the training of our junior doctors is acknowledged both locally and internationally and he has been a mentor to many. His passion for attracting young physicians to our region and fostering in them his vision for high quality medical services across the Territory is commendable."
"Dr Banfield, who began her internship at Alice Springs Hospital last year, has been active in representing her peers on the Medical Training Committee, advocating for and determining the needs of Alice Springs' junior doctors.
"The NT health system is proud of Professor Currie and Dr Banfield and we all wish them the best of luck in Auckland," Mr Moffet said.
