Walk all over Canada's world record

What do you get when 300,000 Australians walk 1km down the road at the same time?

A Guinness World Record on 1 September 2008if the NT steps up to the challenge!

Western Australia set the World Record in 2006 with over 100,000 people walking one kilometre at the same time.

They were beaten by more than 230,000 Canadians last year and this year Australia wants to win back the title.

goNT spokesperson Tamie Needham is launching the event in the Northern Territory along with the goNT Network and National Heart Foundation's walking groups. Ms Needham said it is a terrific opportunity to get fit while making history.

"People who walk for just 30 minutes every day manage their weight more easily and are less likely to develop heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

"We're asking people to join us on Monday September 1 at 1:30pm to walk just 1km down the road.

"Canada stomped us last year but we need to take it in our stride and reclaim the record - all while becoming more active.

"Get your friends, get your family, get the entire office to join the rest of Australia and walk our way to a world record and a more active lifestyle," said Ms Needham.

Teams of one or more must register online at http://thegiantwalk.com.au or by calling 8985 8025.
