The Areyonga community water supply is once again safe to drink.
The Department of Health and Community Services (DHCS) today lifted the Precautionary Advice for Drinking Water (Water Boil Alert) for the Areyonga community, after samples from the community's water supply were confirmed as being free of E.coli.
Director of Environmental Health Xavier Schobben said the Water Boil Alert was issued on 5 February 2008, as monthly samples taken from the community water supply identified the presence of E.coli.
The bacteria is an indicator of faecal pollution and the possible presence of other harmful bacteria that can cause diarrhoea.
Power and Water Corporation officers immediately responded and super-chlorinated the system.
"Super-chlorinating the system and flushing out of the pipes has removed the bacteria, and the water is now safe for drinking.
"This incident was responded to quickly by Power and Water Corporation".
"I am confident that the actions taken and steps put in place will ensure that any future potential public health risks are greatly minimised," Mr Schobben said.
