Water Boil Alert issued for Numbulwar

Wednesday 31 March 2010

A precautionary advice for drinking water (water boil alert) was issued at 7.00 pm last night for the Numbulwar Community following the effects of heavy rain from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Paul on the operation of the community's water supply.

The Department of Health and Families has confirmed that precautionary measures were being taken to ensure that the water supply, which is currently not operating, will be safe to drink again as quickly as possible.

DHF Environmental Health Director Xavier Schobben said in the meantime people in Numbulwar should drink bottled water or boil drinking water and allow to cool prior to consumption.

"Once the water supply is fully operational the water boil alert will be cancelled," Mr Schobben said.

"Power Water Corporation General Manager Remote Operations, Darryl Day, advises that once the rain eases Power and Water Corporation officers will flush the water supply system, monitor the chlorine in the system and ensure maximum disinfection occurs to kill any bacteria present.

"Residents who experience diarrhoea symptoms should seek advice from the health clinic or other health service."
