There have been up to 190 Emergency Department attendances per day, compared to an average of 150 per day last year. The disease was found in two dogs from the Kuta area - a popular region for Australian tourists. Bali had previously been considered free of rabies. The main mosquito that transmits RRV, BFV, MVEV and KUNV in the Alice area is the common banded mosquito, Culex annulirostris. The floodwater mosquito, Aedes normanensis can also transmit RRV, BFV and MVEV, and the receptacle breeding mosquito, Aedes notoscriptus, is a potential vector for RRV.

At the moment the President is progressing along an expected clinical course in the intensive care unit. There have been no complications and we are very pleased with his progress to this point. We expect that over the next few days he will emerge from the sedation that he's been under and will progress towards coming off the breathing machine that he's on.
