Katherine District Hospital Career Opportunities

Katherine District Hospital is a 60 bed hospital providing inpatient Medical, Surgical, Paediatric, and Obstetric services, serving a population of approximately 19,000. The hospital is staffed by Medical Officers employed as Rural Medical Practitioners. There is a busy Accident and Emergency department, two well equipped theatres, and a renal haemodialysis unit.  Medical Officers work closely with local General Practitioners and Aboriginal Medical Services.  Specialist visits to the hospital provide outpatient services and social work, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, speech pathology and physiotherapy services are on site.

Medical Officers should have a broad range of experience. Doctors who have good general practice skills will be able to work well in this environment and will be exposed to a broad range of medical experience across rural, remote and Indigenous health. The hospital is accredited for General Practice training and fully supported by specialists based in Darwin. There is access to education and training both locally and regionally. Flinders University Rural Clinical School is based on the hospital campus and medical students do rotations at the hospital. Accommodation and sporting facilities are available on campus.  Applicants with obstetric or anaesthetic procedural skills may be eligible for a generous procedural grant.
