Yes, there are opportunities to practice all aspects of dentistry including molar endodontics and crown and bridge but not implant dentistry. Opportunities to practice crown and bridge work may be limited in the public sector, but opportunities to provide these services in the private sector are more than likely to be available.
Is it possible to spent the contract time period in different parts of the Territory?
Yes. There are opportunities to move between clinics in different parts of the Territory.
What continuing education is available - allowances and accessibility to ongoing education?
- A Professional Development Allowance is provided to enable Dentists to attend conferences, seminars and the like for the purpose of advancing or maintaining their professional knowledge and skill. Paid study leave is available.
- The Department of Health & Community Services provides on-going education in many relevant areas to Health Service Delivery. Also it has a range of scholarships available.
- The Australian Dental Association brings two interstate guest lecturers to the Territory twice yearly and often has visiting guest lectures at their bi-monthly meetings.
What employment opportunities are available for partners?
There are excellent employment opportunities in all fields in the NT.
What is the cost of living in remote areas?
The cost of living in Darwin and Alice Springs is comparable with interstate cities, although accommodation costs are quite high. On remote communities a tax free Travel Allowance is paid to offset any additional costs.
