The Department is currently recruiting to health and community service professional vacancies where there is a skill shortage and will sponsor successful overseas applicants to work in the Northern Territory. Initially, sponsorship would be under a Temporary 457 visa with options, after a period of 6-12 months, to be sponsored permanently under the Regional Skill Migration Scheme.

Regional Skilled Migration Scheme (RSMS)
The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 119-857) (RSMS) is a visa scheme that enables regional employers, who are unable to fill skilled positions from within the local labour market, to employ skilled personnel from overseas.
To be eligible for nomination under RSMS:
- positions must be skilled, full-time vacancies within the business or organisation; and
- the positions must be for at least two years and the employer and their overseas nominee must be willing to enter into a two year contract of employment. The two years is calculated from the date the permanent residence visa and is issued by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to the overseas nominee.

Temporary Entry Long Stay Business Visa (sub-class 457)
The Department uses the Temporary Entry Long Stay Business Visa (subclass 457) to sponsor skilled personnel from overseas to nominated skilled positions.
Overseas workers employed on this visa can:
- work in Australia for a period of between 3 months and 4 years
- bring any eligible secondary applicants with them to Australia - secondary applicants can work and study
- after entering Australia, have no limit on the number of times they travel in and out of Australia
