Foster Care

For many reasons, some children are unable to live at home. Sometimes Family and Children's Services becomes involved to meet the child's needs for care and safety.

Foster carers are volunteers who play a highly valued and important role in our community, caring for children of all ages, backgrounds and family types unable to live at home.

Foster carers don't need to be married, own their own home, have children or hold professional qualifications. Carers are everyday people, willing and able to open their own homes to provide children with safe, supportive and loving environments.

Indigenous Employment and Careers (5-year framework)

Improving both Aboriginal representation in the health workforce and ensuring that they have access to career and development opportunities is an essential component of building a different and better functioning Department. The Department is creating a workforce that is affirming of Aboriginal culture and values and which seeks to create targeted and general employment and career opportunities for Aboriginal people.

Overseas Applicants

The Department is currently recruiting to health and community service professional vacancies where there is a skill shortage and will sponsor successful overseas applicants to work in the Northern Territory. Initially, sponsorship would be under a Temporary 457 visa with options, after a period of 6-12 months, to be sponsored permanently under the Regional Skill Migration Scheme.
