This book is a compilation of pregnancy, birth and early parenting information for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and was developed as part of the NT Government's Closing the Gap of Indigenous Disadvantage initiative.
The book provides women and their families with the opportunity to learn more about pregnancy, options for healthy lifestyle choices, alcohol and other drugs, antenatal care and tests, labour and birth options and being a new parent. It also provides an opportunity for health professionals to discuss these topics and any issues that arise.
The books are designed for distribution to all NT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pregnant women, early in the antenatal period, with the option of taking the book home or leaving it at the health centre with her pregnancy health record and reading/discussing points at each visit.
