Radiographers Board Announcement - November 2009

As of 5 October 2009 the Radiographers Board of the Northern Territory no longer be issuing a permit to conduct radiographic procedures. This is now the responsibility of the Radiation Protection Section of the Department of Health and Families.

The Radiation Protection Section advise that holders of a current Permit to conduct radiographic procedures, issued by the Radiographers Board, are deemed to hold a license under the Radiation Protection Act. Radiation Protection will invite all current permit holders to renew their authority to conduct radiographic procedures, prior to the expiry of the current Permit.

Dentists, Dental Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Chiropractors, Medical Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Postgraduate Radiographers Year 1 and others, who are required to conduct radiographic procedures and who do not hold a current permit or license, are advised to either refer to the following website:

Role

The Radiographers Board of the Northern Territory is a statutory body responsible for ensuring the public is protected through the regulation of Radiographers registered in the Northern Territory.

The Radiographers Board carries out this mandate by:

  • Ensuring that all Radiographers have received educational preparation to an agreed national standard and;
  • Dealing with issues of conduct and taking any disciplinary action as required;

The Health Professions Licensing Authority (HPLA) provides a bureau service to the Radiographers Board and carries out administrative duties as directed by it.

Radiographers Register

The register identifies registrants as having either full registration/enrolment or conditional registration/enrolment.

Conditional registration/enrolment means that there are some restrictions on the person's practice. Such restrictions are diverse in nature and further information about the conditions applying to a particular registrant can be obtained by contacting us.

Radiographers who hold current Registration in Victoria, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia or New Zealand only can apply for Registration in the Northern Territory under the Mutual Recognition Act or the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Act.Feb 2008
