Serenity prayer
O God, give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. Let me take one day at a time.
A prayer for self
Dear Lord, You are the greatest physician. I turn to You in my sickness. May I find in this strange world of sickness much love and perhaps many new insights. Give me patience not to be in too big a hurry. Give me common sense to let those who know best do their job properly. Strengthen my faith in myself and in those who are Your Healing Hands. May I feel Your presence by my bed day and night. Then I will stay in hospital without fear and in perfect confidence.
A prayer before sleep
Lord of all ages, bless the people who looked after me today. Thank you for all who came to visit me. Now help me to sleep well tonight. Take away all my tensions, my fears, my worries. Give me a body that is relaxed, a mind at peace, and a heart at rest.
A prayer before surgery
Loving Father, I entrust myself to Your care this day; help me to be calm and relaxed, trusting the skilled hands of the doctors, nurses and technicians who are concerned about my well-being. Grant that the cause of my illness will be removed and that I may be restored to sound health. Be with my loved ones who must wait. May the time not pass too slowly for them. Restore us to each other with health and hope.
