Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy

Coming to hospital as an inpatient--whether it be for tests or major surgery--or being a relative or carer of a patient can be a stressful and sometimes lonely experience. The Chaplaincy Department , which is supported by the Ministers Fellowship of Alice Springs, provides the pastoral ministry of a chaplain regardless of belief, nationality, culture and gender.

Our Chaplain, Stephanie Daley-Smith, is a member of the health care team and can offer support and comfort in times of special need, to help with a special problem or simply be a companion, to listen and talk without giving unwanted advice or intrude into the life of any person.

A visit from the Chaplain can be requested through the nursing staff 24 hours a day.

Chapel

The Chapel is located on the ground floor opposite the Information Desk and the Outpatients Department. It is a place of peace and quietness where it is easy to pray and reflect.

The Chapel is never closed . You are most welcome there at any time. Your family and friends are also welcome.

Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care is available for all people, whether they have any religious affiliation or not. Contact with representatives of the local Christian churches and other major religions can be arranged through the hospital Chaplain should you wish to see someone of a specific faith.

A ministry of prayer and sacraments is available on request and can provide prayers, prayer of healing and anointing with oil, Holy Communion or the Lord's Supper as well as Confession if required.

You may want to call a chaplain if:

  • You are feeling worried, lonely, helpless, vulnerable or confused
  • You are feeling grateful, relieved or hopeful
  • You are going to have surgery
  • You are concerned about your dignity
  • You want to talk to someone about faith and illness
  • You wish to receive the special ministries of the Church
  • You want someone to pray with you
  • You are concerned about family relationships or other matters
  • You are facing a significant change in your lifestyle
  • You need some support
