Visiting the Hospital

Location

The Alice Springs Hospital is located on Gap Road, a few blocks south of the CBD.

Parking

Visitors' car parking, including Disabled Parking, is provided at the front of the hospital on Gap Road.  Four car parks are also available near the Emergency Department entrance.

Gifts

Gifts of lollies, food and drinks are often appreciated. Visitors are asked to consult with the nursing staff before giving patients any articles of food or drink. Some items may not be able to be consumed while the patient is undergoing a course of treatment.

Hospital Visiting Hours

Visiting hours have been set to allow for the rest, comfort and adequate medical or nursing care of our patients.

Visitors are requested to see nursing staff approval before seeing the patient.

General visitors are allowed from 10.00 am until 11.30 am, and in the afternoon from 2.00 pm until 4.30 pm, and in the evening from 5.30 pm until 8.00 pm.

Special consideration applies to:

Maternity Ward
Partners may visit at any time but are encouraged to allow a rest period 12.00 midday until 2.00 pm.

Intensive Care, Palliative Care, Day Procedure Unit
Please make arrangements in consultation with ward staff.

Children's Ward
Promotes family friendly visiting hours between 10.30 am and 8.00 pm.

Alcohol

No alcohol may be brought into the hospital unless special permission is given. Permission will be only for medical reasons.

Persons visibly affected by alcohol will be requested to leave and if necessary will be accompanied off the premises.

Smoking

The hospital promotes a non-smoking environment.  Smoking is not permitted inside hospital buildings.  Outside the buildings, smoking is only permitted in the signed posted designated areas.

Food and Drink

Please check with staff before offering patients any food or drink.
