PEPA has been offering clinical placements and workshop education in the Northern Territory since 2003 as part of the National Palliative Care program. The program continues until June 2010.

PEPA offers placements at all times of the year until early 2010.

For 2009 - 2010 those working in remote areas, particularly Aboriginal Health Workers and Liaison Officers are encouraged to apply. Allied Health practitioners from all disciplines are also encouraged to apply.

The aim of the PEPA is to improve the quality, availability and access to palliative care for people who have life-limiting illnesses and their families. PEPA provides clinical workforce placements in a specialised palliative care service in Darwin and/or Alice Springs for primary health care practitioners from a wide range of disciplines including:

  • Aboriginal Health Workers, Aboriginal Liaison Officers and Interpreters
  • Allied Health Workers including Pastoral Care Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social workers, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists.
  • Nurses - Registered and Enrolled
  • Medical Practitioners
  • Residential care workers and Patient Care Assistants
  • Specialist palliative care providers

(Eligibility criteria apply)

These clinical placements have continuing professional development points allocated and are funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, in partnership with the Northern Territory Government Department of Health and Families.

Territory Palliative Care offers placements with the specialist palliative care team in the community in both Top End and Central Australia and in a state of the art facility, Territory Hospice, opened in 2005. Experiences offered at this customised, purpose built facility greatly enhances the placement for participants.
