Palmerston is an eight station dialysis unit situated 20 minutes from Darwin CBD and 2 minutes from Palmerston CBD. A short drive down the Stuart Highway will find you in the rural areas of Howard Springs, Humpty Doo and beyond.
The dialysis unit itself is situated at the Palmerston Health Precinct, which encompasses other health services including Community health, dentist, x-ray, specialist suites, ambulance and private GPs.
Staffing levels at the unit are 1 nurse to 4 patients with the CNC regularly involved with the clinical aspects of patient care. The small nature of the unit lends itself to patient care being tailored to suit individual requirements. The bright new environment creates a relaxed atmosphere, facilitating free communication between patient, family members and staff. Staff are encouraged to take an active role in patient education and in the self care training program, aimed at patients becoming independent within the unit or working towards home based dialysis.
As a fast growing city, Palmerston caters for young families as well as the more mature person. Being the gateway to the rural area it allows for recreational activities such as mud crabbing and barramundi fishing. 15 minutes drive down the Stuart Highway will have you at Berry Springs, a safe, fresh water lagoon sourced from a natural spring - a perfect place to relax.
