Tennant Creek Unit

In the Center of the Red Center

The Tennant Creek Dialysis Unit is brand spanking new, having only opened on April 20 th 2005. Architecturally designed with Aboriginal culture in mind, the décor is spectacular with yellow, red and blue floors, ochre walls and purple doors, (now you will have to come and have a look). We are a stand-alone unit, situated in the grounds of the Tennant Creek Hospital and opposite Tennant Creek Memorial Club (very convenient for after work refreshments).

We are an 8 station facility and provide dialysis for a total of 32 patients Monday to Saturday. Primary nursing enables us to facilitate and encourage self-care, and tailor individual treatments to the patients needs. Patients enjoy coming to the new unit as they share stories, bush tucker (a cooked echidna recently) and can watch DVD's and videos on their individual TV's, which all makes their treatment time more comfortable.

Great reasons to work Tennant Creek are:

  • Opportunity to care for and work with Indigenous people, learn a language and a different way of life and gain a valuable personal and professional experience.
  • Work with friendly professional staff who share their own experiences to provide best practice.
  • Remote allowances and financial incentives are available for contracts of 6 months or longer.
  • Subsidised accommodation is available on site, with pool, BBQ and tennis court, which allow ample opportunities for social gatherings.
  • Improve your knowledge of Indigenous art and culture through Barkly Arts (winner of the Territory Tourism award) and "Nikki Nunyuyu", where you can also sample the delights of local music.
  • Attend touring drama productions, artists and movie festivals at the town civic hall, or take a brief step back in history and visit the Battery Hill mining museum and the old Telegraph Station.
  • Tennant Creek provides the perfect base for exploring the red centre and beyond on your days off, fulfilling Daryl Sommers dream of "if you never never go you never never know". Camping under the stars, bushwalking, bike rides and picnics await you. AND ROCKS! Lots of mysterious, intriguing and ancient rocks like the Devils Marbles, the Olgas and Ayres Rock

So if you are a trained renal nurse, RN or EN, looking for a remote experience, then Tennant Creek is definitely the place for you.
