  • Rheumatic Fever DVD
In 2005, the Darwin-based Menzies School of Health Research produced an educational DVD about preventing rheumatic heart disease. It was written and produced by Aboriginal people specifically for Aboriginal people and highlighted the importance of preventing rheumatic fever.

In response to requests for the DVD to be translated from English into local Aboriginal languages, the Department of Health and Families has now translated the original DVD into Yolngu Matha and will be used for health education in hospital settings and in Arnhem Land communities where Yolngu Matha is spoken.

On this particular DVD, Yolngu Matha, English and English with sub titles for the hearing impaired is available. Additional languages will become available in the future.

The DVD is most beneficial if used in conjunction with " Rheumatic Heart Disease Story Telling Guide" which is available through the Aboriginal Resource and Development Services (ARDS). This DVD was developed by health professionals and indigenous language speakers working together to create a meaningful way to explain Rheumatic Heart Disease.
